Covid19 statement update

27 Apr 2020 by Alison frost

To all of our family at Sutton Sting firstly and most importantly we hope you and your nearest and dearest are all safe and well in these extraordinary times.

We promised to provide a further update towards the end of April, some 7 or so weeks since the start of lockdown.

Our proposed formal end of season was set for the end of May and it is clear that restrictions will not be eased allowing any gatherings before this time.

The timing, phasing and ways of “reopening” will undoubtedly be determined by developing government advice and ultimately our goal is to only consider any club in person gatherings when it is safe to do so. I stress in person as I’m aware of some brilliant digital club interactions I’ve seen such as “the loo roll challenge”, bingo and quiz nights.

There’s also many ways for the players to maintain their fitness and actually improve stick and shooting skills by taking a look at some skill videos that can be sourced on-line. You Tube is a good source for development videos but make sure you ask your parents first.

We want to be open and honest with all of our members and share our current thoughts on 3 upcoming areas
1 – Tournaments
2 – Training / 3v3 in the close season
3 – Awards night

1 In terms of tournaments we are in touch with the hosts and will formally confirm our position at the end of next week

2 We will be guided by developing government advice but our current thinking is that at the earliest the return date will be the pre COVID 19 proposed 2020 -21 season start date of September 2020.

3 We have made the decision to postpone our Annual Awards Evening.

Away from hockey we appreciate many of the players will be nervous in terms of their
A / AS and GCSE level exams being cancelled. Others will be nervous at being home schooled and the impact this may have for future education periods.

There’s some great digital assistance out there to support you and it’s also a brilliant time to spend some quality family time together something in our modern hectic society that’s often overlooked.

We know there will be economic and financial concerns for many and we’d like to maintain our commitment that the club will not ask for any subscriptions until we start training again. Even at this point, if you have been impacted by the events of Covid-19 please come and talk to us.

The Exec team at Sutton Sting continue to wish you all well and we will now look to provide more regular updates.

Stay safe
